Water Sports in Tahoe
There are lots of things to do on Lake Tahoe besides
motor
boating. Renting
Jet Skis, Sea Doos, and Wave Runners is the highlight of the summer for
most water lovers coming to Lake Tahoe.
The
South Shore is the popular place for wave runner rentals. Zephyr Cove
which is north of Stateline in Nevada is a quiet harbor to
rent wave runners, and power boats. Ski Run Marina in the South,
and Tahoe Keys Marina in the South along with rentals in Zephyr Cove.
North
Shore also has Parasailing
and personal watercraft rental. Kings Beach is the popular beachy
town in the North.
No matter where you go,
you
may want a wet suit when you go out on the lake as the water is chilly
all year round.
Jet Skis, Wave Runners & Sea Doos
There is no experience necessary when you rent a "personal watercraft" however
being a good swimmer is helpful. Rental companies will provide
you with all the information, life jackets and instruction
before you go out, and reservations are requested to guarantee
you a watercraft. Wave runners come in different sizes with
up to 3 riders on a single runner. More popular than a Jet-Ski
since you can sit down, the wave runners also right themselves when they tip
over... and yes, they do, but that is part of the fun.

You can rent all kinds of boats and water toys at many of
the local marinas. |
Water skiing
If physical is your thing, many of the
boat marinas offer waterskiing, wakeboarding and tubing. You
can get a boat and driver if you don't need any
instruction, or you can rent your own if your
a component boat driver. Or course, you only need a launch if you bring
your own.
Wakeboarding
For those who don't know, wakeboarding is the hottest new water sport.
You are pulled behind a boat, on a board much
like a snowboard. Perfect for young and old as
there is less pull on your arms than water skiing.
Most adults can get up with the first go, and
soon after are learning to steer the board. Being
a good swimmer and not afraid of the water is
very helpful as you do tend to crash at some
point... well that is half the fun.
Sailing
For those looking for a quieter way to enjoy the lake, renting a sailboat may be
your adventure speed. Experience in sailing is usually mandatory.
Parasailing
The other popular activity is Parasailing. You have a sky high view. While parasailing,
you will ride in a parachute high in the air propelled by a speed boat. The views
are phenomenal, and it is a thrill.
Beaches
If relaxing on the beach is more your style, choose one of the nice
beaches and
catch some rays. Your friends who rent their Sea Doos and Wave Runners will be able to drive the craft up on to the beach in some areas.
